UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State’s annual THON event will be held in-person on Feb. 18, at the Bryce Jordan Center in 2022.

THON is a 46-hour dance marathon which is the final event of the year-long efforts of student volunteers in raising money for the fight against pediatric cancer.

Last February, the event went virtual in an effort to ensure the safety of all participants, and prevent any potential spread of the COVID-19.

Many students look forward to bringing this Penn State tradition back in-person.

Lenard Jacques (grad student-engineering) said he is looking forward to THON as it is an opportunity to get to know his campus community more.

Many student organizers are also exhilarated to hold this event in person once again.

“THON is a magical experience no matter if it’s in person or virtual, but I’m still thrilled to be able to be back with the in-person experience, and to be back in the BJC, surrounded by thousands of people with the same goal,” Amy Garry (third-year-education) said.

Alongside the excitement, student organizers are keeping in mind the challenges that may be encountered when bringing back this event.

“Overall, I think we’ve overcome more difficult things than getting people vaccinated, and getting people safe,” August Smychynsky (third-year-biological science) said. “I think that in the end we’ll be successful, and I am really optimistic about the future.”
