Students Continue to Wait for Election Results

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — The 2020 presidential election is guaranteed to be one of the most unforgettable races in American history.

It is taking rather long this year for the final results of the election to come in. This is partly due to the current COVID-19 pandemic.

Sophomore Maddie Dong, majoring in psychology neuroscience, says, “There’s an influx of so many people that are actually voting,” so that could explain why there is such a delay.

Freshman Lorraine Garday, majoring in pre-med, adds on to this by explaining that there is such a delay because of the mail-in ballots.

“I think it’s taking them a really long time to count those,” Garday said.

Senior Taylor Williams, majoring in communication sciences and disorders, agrees with Gorday.

“I think it is going to take a while to get the results back,” Williams said.

Many students predict that Joe Biden is going to win, as he is currently in the lead with 264 electoral votes, according to the Associated Press. Current President Donald Trump currently has 214 electoral votes.

“I think it all depends on Nevada,” Dong said.

Nevada seems to be the state that the entire country is counting on. If Biden wins Nevada, he is assured to win the election. If Trump wins Nevada, then we continue waiting for other states to finish counting.

The results of the election are projected to become final as early as the end of the week, or as late as a few weeks from now.
