What to know about governor candidate Doug Mastriano
Doug Mastriano is a retired military officer and American politician who’s served in the Pennsylvania senate since 2019. He represents the 33rd district which includes Adams, Cumberland, Franklin and York counties.
In 1986, Mastriano served in the United States Army on the Iron Curtain with the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment in West Germany. After 9/11, he was the lead planner in the operation to invade Iraq. He also served four years with NATO and was deployed three times to Afghanistan.
In 2017, he retired from the United States Army after 30 years of active-duty as a colonel.
Mastriano has an expansive academic background with four master’s degrees in strategy, strategic intelligence, military operations and airpower, publishing 30 articles on strategy and historic topics.
On Jan. 8, 2022, Mastriano announced his candidacy as a Republican candidate for governor in Pennsylvania.
The “Mastriano Plan” includes restoring freedom, protecting families and reviving the economy.
Mastriano believes in election integrity, partnering with the legislature to eliminate mail-in voting and drop boxes.
He also plans on signing the heartbeat bill into law, which would end funding for Planned Parenthood and expand counseling for adoption services.
Additionally, Mastriano proposes a crackdown on the fentanyl snuck across the southern border and ensures that Pennsylvania will never be a sanctuary for illegal immigrants.
Mastriano addresses several other issues on his website, including the Second Amendment, school funding and curriculum, as well as lowering taxes.
