2014 NFL Combine Recap: Tight Ends

The tight end workouts at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis came to a close on Saturday, with some of the most successful finishes came from Oregon’s Colt Lyerla, Tennessee State’s A.C. Leonard, Eric Ebron from North Carolina and C.J. Fiedorowicz from Iowa.

Lyerla tied for first for the farthest broad jump with Leonard at 128, and ranked highest in the vertical jump category with 39. This was Lyerla’s first public appearance since October, (when he left Oregon after being suspended and not long after that was arrested for cocaine possession).

Leonard ranked first in the 40-yard dash with a time of 4.50 seconds, but managed just 34 on the vertical jump and 20 reps on the bench press.

Ebron ranked second in the 40-yard dash with 4.60, followed by Lyerla with 4.61, Trey Burton from Florida with 4.62, and Jace Amaro from Texas Tech coming in fifth with 4.74.

Joe Don Duncan from Dixie State ranked first in the bench press with 35, followed by Amaro with 28, Arthur Lynch from Georgia with 28, Troy Niklas from Notre Dame with 27, and Fiedorowicz from Iowa coming in fifth with 25.

After Leonard and Lyerla in the broad jump comes Ebron again tying with Crockett Gillmore from Colorado State with 120.0, followed by Amaro coming in fifth again with 118.0.

The 3-cone drill was led by Fiedorowicz with 7.10, followed by Burton tied with Jordan Najvar from Baylor with 7.14, Jake Murphy from Utah with 7.18, and Reggie Jordan from Missouri Western coming in fifth with 7.22.

Fiedorowicz led the 20-yard shuttle with 4.26, followed by Murphy with 4.27, Amaro tied with Jordan with 4.30, and Burton coming in fifth with 4.32.

Other tight ends competing this year included Rob Blanchflower from Massachusetts, who did not participate on Saturday due to a bilateral sports hernia injury.

Anthony Denham from Utah who had 4.77 in the 40-yard dash and 32.5 in the vertical jump, Xavier Grimble from USC who had 26.5 in the vertical jump and 113 in the broad jump, Nic Jacobs from McNeese State who had 15 in the bench press.

Marcel Jensen from Fresno State finished with 4.85 in the 40-yard dash, 24 in the bench press, 35 in the vertical jump, 115 in the broad jump, 7.38 in the 3-

cone drilland 4.6 in the 20-yard shuttle, and Jacob Pedersen from Wisconsin with 4.89 in the 40-yard dash, 28.5 in the vertical jump, 111 in the broad jump, 7.55 in the 3-cone drill, 4.4 in the 20-yard shuttle, and 12.19 in the 60-yard shuttle.

Richard Rodgers from California tallied 4.87 in the 40-yard dash, 16 in the bench press, 31.5 in the vertical jump, 116 in the broad jump, 7.23 in the 3-cone drill, and 4.47 in the 20-yard shuttle.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins from Washington had 20 in the bench press and did not participate in any other workouts and D.J. Tialavea from Utah State did not participate.
