4-star running back London Montgomery commits to Penn State football
Penn State has excelled at recruiting in-state talent, especially running back, and that trend continued on Monday.
Four-star running back London Montgomery committed to the Nittany Lions and was a key target in their 2023.
Montgomery is the state’s top-rated running back recruit in the recruiting cycle, and his addition would be an excellent follow-up to last year’s top in-state running back, Nick Singleton.
The Scranton, Pennsylvania, native visited Happy Valley several times and is excited to stay home.
“Something that stood out to me at Penn State was the strong connection between the players and the coaches,” Montgomery said in an interview. “They are very close. Another thing that stood out to me was that Coach [Ju’Juan] Seider made me feel like I was at home. I was very comfortable talking about anything with him and the rest of the staff.”
Montgomery flew under the radar on the recruiting trail but began pulling some impressive offers with Big Ten ties after he started to open some eyes at camps.
The four-star is the No. 27 running back in the nation while being ranked No. 391 in the class, according to 247sports.
He chose the blue and white over Boston College and Virginia Tech, and those were the only schools he took official visits to.
Montgomery took multiple Penn State unofficial visits before arriving in State College for his mid-June official visit, and linebacker Kobe King was Montgomery's host for his official visit.
After his commitment, the Nittany Lions class has 17 pledges, and Montgomery is the lone running back.
Montgomery also marks the sixth in-state talent to commit to the program and gives the blue and white three of the top seven players from Pennsylvania.
With the addition of the star running back, Penn State sits with a top-six class and second in the Big Ten behind Ohio State.
