Around the Big-12: Week 3

Story posted September 24, 2022 in CommRadio, Sports by Brady McCormick

After a rock-solid Week 3 in the Big-12, totaling a combined record of 8-2 on the week, most of these programs will look to continue their strong start to the season.

Kansas (3-0): 48, Houston: 30

Not many people would’ve expected the Jayhawks to be sitting at 3-0 to start the season. Kansas has rallied behind dual-threat quarterback Jalon Daniels, who has both rushed and threw for a touchdown in every game so far.
Week 4: Kansas now heads into a home matchup with Duke, a team who is also off to an unexpected 3-0 start.

Iowa State (3-0): 43, Ohio: 10

Iowa State has been impressive so far after following up its massive victory against Iowa with a dominant display against Ohio on Saturday. The Cyclone defense has been the key to their success, holding opposing teams to 10 points or less in all three of their games so far.

Week 4: The Cyclones now face their toughest test yet as No. 17 Baylor comes to town on Saturday.

No. 6 Oklahoma (3-0): 49, Nebraska: 14

The Sooners have looked very strong to start this season. Although they’ve had favorable matchups, both sides of the ball have played well as they continue to try to make their push into the top five.

Week 4: Oklahoma will now host conference opponent Kansas State, in what should be a promising matchup.

No. 9 Oklahoma State (3-0): 63, Arkansas-Pine Bluff: 7

Oklahoma State has gotten off to a blistering 3-0 start after they throttled Arkansas-Pine Bluff this past weekend. The Cowboys dominated this game behind a combined six passing touchdowns from quarterbacks Spencer Sanders and Gunnar Gundy.

Week 4: Oklahoma State now heads into a bye week as they prepare for a key conference matchup against No. 17 Baylor.

No. 17 Baylor (2-1): 42, Texas State: 7

Coming off a disappointing overtime loss against BYU, Baylor needed a bounce-back win. They put on an impressive performance, as they took care of business against Texas State this past weekend.

Week 4: The Bears now travel to Jack Trice Stadium to face-off with a red-hot Iowa State team.

Tulane: 17, Kansas State (2-1): 10

Kansas State had one of the more disappointing showings in the Big-12 this week. The Wildcats had a frustrating game on offense, punting the ball seven times while turning it over on downs four times.

Week 4: Kansas State will hope to bounce back from their loss against Tulane, as it hits the road to face a scary Oklahoma team.

No. 22 Texas (2-1): 41, UTSA: 20

The Longhorns had a strong showing in a bounce back win against UTSA. They’ve looked dangerous in every game so far, only losing to No. 2 ranked Alabama in heart-breaking fashion back in Week 2. Their star quarterback, Quinn Ewers, is expected to play this week after missing the contest against UTSA.

Week 4: A major conference game now awaits Texas as they travel to face in-state rival Texas Tech this Saturday.

NC State: 27, Texas Tech (2-1): 14

Coming into last week’s game, Texas Tech was riding high after a thrilling double overtime victory against Houston. The Red Raiders followed it up with an unsatisfactory display on Saturday against NC State. Their offense was never able to get going and they never gave themselves much of a chance.

Week 4: Texas Tech will look to rebound off their loss as they host a fearless Longhorn team on Saturday.

West Virginia (1-2): 65, Towson: 7

The Mountaineers came into this game coming off two disappointing losses to Pitt and Kansas. They were finally able to grab their first win of the season, behind a combined six rushing touchdowns.

Week 4: West Virginia will now travel to Virginia Tech, for a game that should be highly competitive.

TCU (2-0): Bye

The Horned Frogs are coming off their bye week after their strong start to the season.

Week 4: TCU will travel to Dallas Texas to face a hungry SMU team coming off a loss.
