Auston Matthews Out for At Least Three Weeks

Toronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews will miss at least three weeks with an injury, per the team. Matthews was injured in the game against the New York Rangers on Jan. 24.

Matthews will miss the All-Star Game and will be replaced by Florida’s Aleksander Barkov for the Atlantic Division. Matthews has 47 points in 53 games this season.

Ilya Mikheyev Out for the Season

Vancouver Canucks right wing Ilya Mikheyev will be out for the rest of the season to undergo ACL surgery.

Mikheyev sustained a partial tear of his ACL in the first preseason game against the Calgary Flames in September. Originally, he was out with what was originally thought to be a lower-body injury.

Vancouver has gone through serious changes lately, especially in the head coaching staff. Last week, the Canucks fired Bruce Boudreau, who had essentially become a sitting duck, and hired Rick Tocchet to take his place.

The Canucks faithful stood by Boudreau and booed Tocchet in his first game in Vancouver, and there’s no better drama for a season than to have an upset fan base.

Stadium Series Jerseys Revealed

The NHL revealed the jerseys for the Stadium Series matchup with the Carolina Hurricanes and Washington Capitals set to face off on Feb. 18.

The Hurricanes pulled off a very NC State-esque solid red and black look with the red warning on the front, a red stripe on the bottom of the jersey, and red sleeves. The name and number on the back are also red.

The Capitals paid homage to the red, white and blue with a white base and a blue eagle on the front of the jersey. The eagle’s wings spread onto the sleeves, while the bottom of the sleeve fills out the red stripe. The name and number on the back is blue.

Oilers EBUG Helps Edmonton to Victory

Matt Berlin, the Oilers’ emergency backup goalie, helped Edmonton in a 7-3 win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Jan. 28.

Starting goalie Stuart Skinner came down with an illness, so Jack Campbell played most of the game but was pulled with 2:26 in the third period. Berlin entered the game and made a save on the only shot he saw.

Berlin is currently playing at the University of Alberta and said that he found out about his spot on the lineup while “doing homework.”
