Around the Pac-12: Week 2

Story posted September 16, 2022 in CommRadio, Sports by CJ Gill

After an embarrassing Week 1 showing from the top teams in the Pac-12, Week 2 left fans with mixed emotions regarding their team's performances.

Mississippi State: 39, Arizona (1-1): 17

Arizona struggled against SEC opposition at home. The Wildcats did themselves no favors as quarterback Jayden de Laura threw three interceptions on the night. Arizona put up only 17 points on eight drives that ended up in Bulldog territory.

Week 3: Arizona hosts defending FCS champion North Dakota State at 11:00 p.m.

No. 11 Oklahoma State: 34, Arizona State (1-1): 17

The team from Tempe, Arizona, also fell to a nonconference opponent in Oklahoma State. The Arizona State defense gave up 14 unanswered points in the 4th quarter to the Cowboys’ inconsistent offense.

Week 3: The Sun Devils wrap up nonconference play against Eastern Michigan at 11:00 p.m.

California (2-0): 20, UNLV: 14

The Cal Golden Bears won a close game against the Rebels of UNLV. The real test is against Notre Dame next week.

Week 3: Cal travels to South Bend, Indiana, for a 2:30 p.m. start against Notre Dame.

Air Force: 41, Colorado (0-2): 10

Colorado remains the only Pac-12 team winless through two games. The Buffaloes are 0-2 for the first time since 2012 after quarterback J.T. Shrout only completed five passes all day.

Week 3: Colorado finishes nonconference play on the road against Minnesota.

Oregon (1-1): 70, Eastern Washington: 14

After losing to the defending national champs in embarrassing fashion, Oregon hung 70 on Eastern Washington. Quarterback Bo Nix and backup Ty Thompson saw the field and both played well in the victory.

Week 3: Oregon welcomes No. 21 BYU to Eugene, Oregon, in a West Coast showdown at 3:30 p.m.

Oregon State (2-0): 35, Fresno State: 32

Jack Colleto’s 2-yard run on the final play of the game gave the Beavers the win in arguably the most exciting game in the conference across the weekend.

Week 3: Oregon State hosts Montana State at 8:00 p.m.

No. 10 USC (2-0): 41, Stanford: 28

Stanford lost to an uber-talented Trojans side in the only conference matchup of the weekend. Four turnovers proved to be too much for Stanford in Palo Alto, California.

Lincoln Riley’s side capitalized on Stanford miscues and flexed their muscles in their first road test of the season. Receiver Jordan Addison finished over the century mark and hauled in two touchdowns to win at Stanford for the first time since 2014.

Week 3: Stanford will be on bye, while USC will host Fresno State at 10:30 p.m.

UCLA (2-0) 45, Alabama State 7

The Bruins took care of business against far inferior foe Alabama State, racking up 485 yards of total offense on the day. They invite another Alabama team in South Alabama next Saturday to the Rose Bowl.

Week 3: UCLA takes on South Alabama at 2:00 p.m.

No. 13 Utah (1-1): 73, Southern Utah: 7

After a disappointing loss in the swamp, the Utes bounced back against an inferior foe in Southern Utah. The Utah offense racked up 599 yards of total offense in the commanding victory.

Week 3: Utah hosts San Diego State at 10:00 p.m.

Washington (2-0): 52, Portland State: 6

The Huskies took care of business against their nonconference opponent, with Indiana transfer Micheal Penix Jr. throwing for 337 yards and two touchdowns en route to victory.

Week 3: Washington welcomes No. 11 Michigan State for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff on ABC.

Washington State: 17, No. 19 Wisconsin: 14

In the biggest surprise in the conference, the Cougars took down the badgers in Camp Randall Stadium, thanks to former badger Nakia Watson scoring twice, including the game-winning 31-yard reception in the 3rd quarter.

Week 3: The Cougars welcome winless Colorado State to town at 5:00 p.m.
