Around the Premier League: Matchweek 14

Story posted November 4, 2022 in CommRadio, Sports by Ben Palillo

This past weekend was another action-packed affair for the Premier League.

Liverpool continued its skid, Tottenham overcame a multi-goal deficit to defeat AFC Bournemouth and Brighton & Hove Albion scored four goals in a win over Chelsea.

Let’s dive into these top storylines from soccer’s top league.

Liverpool continues skid.

After a one-goal loss to relegation candidate Nottingham Forest, Liverpool hoped that a return to Anfield would result in three points. Leeds United had other plans, however, as it picked up the 2-1 win.

Rodrigo Moreno opened the scoring just four minutes after Alisson slipped while receiving a pass from Joe Gomez leading to Moreno slotting it home.

Mohamed Salah had a chance to open the scoring in the first minute, but his shot toward an open net was cleared.

Salah would capitalize on his next scoring opportunity as he slotted in an Andrew Robertson cross in the 14th minute to tie the game up at one.

Then in the 89th minute, Crysencio Summerville became the hero for Leeds United. Summerville snuck a shot past the outstretched arms of Alisson to give Leeds the huge road victory.

Liverpool will look to turn things around against Tottenham on Sunday. While Leeds United will look to parlay this momentum into a win against Bournemouth on Saturday.

Tottenham completes the comeback against Bournemouth

Tottenham's hopes of winning the Premier League almost took a hit this past weekend as they faced off against Bournemouth.

Kieffer Moore opened the scoring in the 22nd minute as he slotted a shot into the bottom right corner to give Bournemouth the lead. Moore then doubled Bournemouth's advantage as he headed a cross by Adam Smith into the top left corner.

Just as three points for Bournemouth looked inevitable, Tottenham's offense came to life.

Ryan Sessegnon cut the lead to one in the 57th minute before Ben Davies headed in the equalizer in the 73rd minute.

Then as a draw looked imminent, Rodrigo Bentancur called game. Bentancur’s shot in the 92nd minute broke the deadlock and gave the Hotspurs a well-deserved three points.

Tottenham will look to continue their winning ways on Sunday against Liverpool. While Bournemouth will look to get back on track against Leeds United on Saturday.

Brighton routs Chelsea

Brighton got its biggest win of the season so far as they defeated Chelsea 4-1 on Saturday.

Leandro Trossard started the scoring as he dribbled around Kepa Arrizabalaga and slotted it into the open net just five minutes in. Then, just nine minutes later, Ruben Loftus-Cheek deflected a Brighton corner in for an own goal.

In the 42nd, a Pervis Estupiñán pass again went off a Chelsea defender. This time, Trevoh Chalobah deflected it in, and Brighton was up 3-0 at halftime.

Kai Havertz headed in a beautiful cross by Conor Gallagher to cut Chelsea’s deficit down two.
But that was all the offense Chelsea could muster.

Pascal Groß would tap in a rebound in the 92nd minute to secure the 4-1 victory.

Brighton will look to continue their climb up the table as they take on Wolverhampton on Saturday. While Chelsea will look to get back into the win column as they take on the table-leading Arsenal on Sunday.
