Around the SEC: Week 8 (Football)
The SEC hosted the biggest ranked matchup in Week 7 when No. 2 Alabama beat No. 3 Georgia 41-24.
Running back Najee Harris ran through the Bulldog defense, carrying the ball 31 times for 152 yards. Harris put together a solid game and a made his case for the Heisman Award.
Junior quarterback Mac Jones put up another big game, throwing for 417 yards and four touchdowns. Jones has developed a solid connection with receiver Jaylen Waddle.
Waddle and Jones connected for six passes and one touchdown. Waddle used his speed to burn his defender and go 90 yards for a touchdown against the strong Georgia defense.
No. 2 Alabama takes on Tennessee on Oct. 24.
Georgia traded blows with Alabama’s mighty offense and had a 24-20 lead at halftime. Junior quarterback Stetson Bennett led to the downfall of the Bulldogs throwing three interceptions.
Bennett had 22 incompletions of his 40 pass attempts.
Bennett and the Bulldogs have a bye week to collect themselves and to get ready for their Week 9 game against Kentucky.
Kentucky upset No. 18 Tennessee 34-7 in Week 7. The Wildcat defense made a name for themselves after two interceptions for touchdowns against the Volunteers. The Wildcats also forced a fumble in the contest.
Kentucky quarterback Terry Wilson added to his career at Kentucky throwing for 101 yards and a touchdown. Wilson will be able to add to his stats against an unranked Missouri team.
Missouri beat a struggling LSU team 45-41 to secure its first win of the season. The game came down to a shootout through the air. Freshman quarterback Connor Bazelak had career-high stat line, throwing for 406 yards and four touchdowns.
The difference came down to the ground game. Missouri running back Larry Rountree III rushed 18 times for 119 yards.
LSU has a tough matchup against South Carolina at 7 p.m. on Oct. 24. LSU could be potentially without its starting quarterback Myles Brennan. Brennan is dealing with a lower body injury that he suffered against Missouri.
LSU may have to look to quarterbacks T.J Finley or Max Johnson if Brennan is unable to play.
South Carolina upset the Auburn Tigers in Week 7 by a score of 30-22. The Gamecocks’ defense looked sharp, forcing Auburn’s quarterback Bo Nix to throw three interceptions.
Not only did the defense play well, but South Carolina running back Kevin Harris put on a great performance. Harris ran for 83 yards and two touchdowns.
South Carolina has one of the best matchups against LSU that they have had in years. Both South Carolina and LSU need a win to stay relevant in the SEC.
The final game for the SEC in Week 8 is the unranked Auburn Tigers against the unranked Ole Miss Rebels.
Auburn’s loss to South Carolina knocked them out of the Top 25. The Tiger offense could not preform against the Gamecocks.
Quarterback Bo Nix and his receiver Seth Williams exchanged hostile words on the sideline over their offensive frustration. The Tigers have to get their act together if they want to avoid another loss against Ole Miss.
Ole Miss has had a rough start to their season with two of their four games being against top-five opponents. Ole Miss lost their most recent game to Arkansas 33-21.
Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral helped Arkansas out by throwing six interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns. Corral had only thrown one interception the whole season until he faced Arkansas.
Corral cannot have another poor outing for the Rebels to beat Auburn.
Ole Miss and Auburn will both be fired up to play because both teams are coming off bad losses.
