Baseball Game Called Due to Weather

Story posted April 10, 2013 in CommRadio, Sports by Allie Rothman

The Nittany Lions held a 7-1 lead over the Bucknell Bisons in the middle of the fourth inning when the umpires called the game for lightning in the area.

Thunderstorms before the game delayed the 6:00 pm start to 6:30.

Catcher J.C. Coban put Penn State on the board in the first inning on a sacrifice fly which scored Elliot Searer.  The Nittany Lions continued to pour on the runs with shortstop Taylor Skerpon and centerfielder Steve Snyder scoring on bloop singles to center and right by Luis Montesinos and Aaron Novak.  Montesinos closed out the scoring in the first when he successfully stole home to put Penn State up 4-0.

The Nittany Lions scored two more runs in the second inning to go ahead 6-0 on Bucknell.

Patton allowed one run in the third inning when he hit Bucknell’s Rob Krentzman with a pitch with the bases loaded to make it 6-1.

Penn State would add one more run in the third inning to go up 7-1, which was the team’s last at bat before the weather turned.

Blake Estep came into the game in relief of starter Taylor Patton in the fourth inning to record the only strikeout of the evening for either team.

Unfortunately for Penn State, the game and all of the stats recorded tonight will not count, as the team was looking to record its third straight win.
