One Penn Stater is a step closer to making his NHL debut.

Brandon Biro was called up by the Buffalo Sabres and is officially set to make his debut against the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday night.

The former captain is just the third-ever Nittany Lion to make the NHL with the other two being Brett Murray and Casey Bailey.

The Sherwood Park, Alberta, native made his debut at Penn State in the 2016-17 campaign and made his impact felt right away tallying 20 points in 37 games. He also tallied Penn State’s first-ever NCAA Tournament goal.

Heading into his sophomore season, Biro looked to take his game to the next level and he did just that.

The forward recorded 22 assists and 31 points in 37 games, which put him second on the team in points.

Biro took a major jump in his junior season tallying career highs in goals assists and points with 16,24 and 40 respectively. He finished seventh in the Big Ten in points and was an All-Big Ten honorable mention.

Heading into his senior season, the forward was named the seventh captain in program history where he led the program to its first-ever Big Ten title.

In that campaign, Biro continued his point per game pace from his junior season recording 25 points in 25 games.

Biro finished his collegiate career with the blue and white, ranking third all-time in assists with 75, fifth all-time in points with 116 and ninth all-time in goals with 41.

He played in 138 games throughout his four-year career as a Nittany Lion.

After signing a two-year contract with the Sabres in March 2020, Biro played in just 15 games for the Rochester Americans in the AHL.

Biro has tore it up for the Americans this campaign tallying 36 points in 39 games and hasn't gone consecutive games without a point since Nov. 27.

He was called up to the Sabres taxi squad twice this year but failed to play in a game.
