Closed for Good: Gumby’s Pizza Shares Their Permanent Closure in State College

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — One of State College’s popular restaurants, Gumby’s Pizza, announced their permanent closure on Friday, Jan.14.

The reason for the business’ closing remains unclear and has yet to be explained by any Gumby’s Pizza representative. The establishment has not updated its social media pages or website about their closed location.

The Gumby's Pizza franchise still has opened locations at numerous college campuses including University of Florida, Texas State and two at University of Missouri.

The only response the business has shared was a posted piece of paper on the door stating its permanent closure and thanking their customers for the past 30 years with a frowning face.

However, this isn’t the first time Gumby’s Pizza closed its doors. In 2020, the pizza place was temporarily shut down because of the failure to follow three health code policies. The restaurant was only closed for a few days.

The establishment, which considers itself the “Home of the Original Pokey Stix,” opened their State College location in 1991 and has been supported by the town and Penn State students throughout the years.

The South Pugh Street storefront, now, for the first time in 32 years will miss Gumby’s Pizza presence and is available for another business to take over.
