College Football recap week 5

Week 4 was eventful and was quite the eventful one. Here are some of my biggest takeaways.

Georgia’s Scare

For two weeks in a row now, Georgia has been far from the unstoppable force they were earlier in the season.

In week 4, they were only up 12-10 over Kent State in the second quarter. And this past week, they barely squeaked out a win against Missouri, which was leading for most of the game.

Quarterback Stetson Bennett started the year looking amazing but has now reverted to his level of play last year as a game manager.

Having dropped from the number one spot, Georgia will have to get its act together to get to the SEC Championship game and beat Alabama.

Jalen Milroe saves Bama

Speaking of Alabama, redshirt freshman quarterback Jalen Milroe was forced into the Alabama-Arkansas game this past week after reigning Heisman winner Bryce Young went down with an injury.

Alabama went from being up 28-0 to only being up 28-23 when Milroe scrambled for 77 yards on 3rd and 15, which led to a touchdown.

Later, a 72-yard touchdown by running back Jahmyr Gibbs put Arkansas away for good. And although Bryce is better, Alabama fans know that its future is in good hands.

Oklahoma, we have a problem

Oklahoma had an eventful offseason, to say the least, losing both head coach Lincoln Riley and superstar quarterback Caleb Williams, who by the way, is making a case as the best quarterback in college football after following Riley to USC.

But the Sooners landed former UCF quarterback Dillon Gabriel in the transfer portal and replaced Riley with Brent Venables.

They were ranked as high as number six, but that has come crashing down in the past two weeks. In week four, they lost 41-34 against Kansas State, letting KSU quarterback Adrian Martinez throw for 234 yards and rush for 148 yards.

This past week, they lost 55-24 to TCU, letting quarterback Max Duggan throw for 302 yards and run for another 116 yards.

This upcoming week Oklahoma plays Texas in the Red River Showdown in what is a make-or-break game for both teams.

Clemson may not be overrated after all

The majority of college football fans thought Clemson was overrated as the number five ranked team in the country.

But this past week, they showed that maybe they do deserve to be a top-five team with a convincing 30-20 win over 10th-ranked NC State, a game they controlled in the second half.

Quarterback DJ Uiagalelei had gotten a ton of criticism for his play last year, but has stepped up this year and looked solid against NC state, with 282 total yards and three total touchdowns on the day.

Slow Down on the Will Levis hype

There is still talk about Kentucky quarterback Will Levis maybe being the potential first overall pick in the NFL draft, being taken over other quarterbacks like CJ Stroud and Bryce Young.

But this past weekend’s game should silence those takes for a while. Levis had two fumbles against Ole Miss. Including one that cost them the game. Of the yards he threw for in that game, many came on either screens or short dump-offs. So the message is simple: Do not overthink this. Stroud and Young should be drafted over Levis.
