CommRadio Newscast: Commentary on President Trump’s Future Abortion Plans
Penn State students are particularly concerned about one of President Trump’s executive orders.
Soon after taking office, Trump signed an executive order reinstating the, “global gag rule,” which forbids the United States from funding overseas organizations that provide, educate about or advocate for abortion.
The order has already caused far-reaching concerns regarding the future of legal abortion and women’s reproductive health access.
Trump stated that he strongly opposes abortion except in the cases of rape, incest, and when a mother’s health is in danger. He also stated that he will be appointing judges who are pro-life to the Supreme Court.
This executive order will impact women worldwide and female Penn State students are not happy about it.
Sophomore Gabby Salazar disagrees with the order and hopes Trump will not take further action against the controversial procedure.
“I believe that Trump does not have the right to defund abortions. It is not a man’s choice when a woman is the one carrying the baby,” said Salazar.
Junior Madi Miller also opposes Trump’s executive order because she feels it reduces women’s rights.
“I think women should have the right to do whatever they want with their body because I think that is it ridiculous that 50-year-old men are in charge of what young woman do with their bodies,” said Miller.
This order and the possible overturning of the 1973 SCOTUS ruling in Roe v. Wade could cause women and girls to take drastic measures, according to Miller.
“If Trump takes away abortion from women, then people are going to seek unhealthy ways to abort children which is going to cause harm to them and the baby,” she said.
