Fantasy Baseball Roundup: Week 2
Week 2 of the fantasy baseball season has concluded, but there is still a lot of time for the standings to shake up.
Over the last week, many players have gotten off to hot starts.
Seattle first baseman Ty France has arguably been the best of them with 40 points in the past week while hitting .500 in that time.
Giants outfielder Joc Pederson has also been on fire recently with three home runs in his past two games.
Another Mariner, shortstop J.P. Crawford, is averaging 4.7 points per game and is still available in roughly 25% of leagues.
Minnesota outfielder Byron Buxton batted 6-for-9 in his past two games with three home runs and seven RBIs while averaging nine points per game.
A few players have gone cold at the plate, though, costing teams throughout the week.
Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado has five points in the last week and is 3-for-17 in his past four games.
Mets outfielder Mark Canha has been ice cold since coming off the COVID injury list, going 2-for-12 with a net of one point in his past four games.
Twins Carlos Correa has not gotten off to the start he wanted and is hitting .192 on the season after signing a huge contract in the offseason.
Mets first baseman Pete Alonso is 4-for-17 in his past four games with a net of just two points.
On the waiver wire, San Diego’s Austin Nola is the second-ranked catcher who is owned in just 28% of leagues.
At first base, Diamondback Christian Walker would be a good pickup as he has positive points in his last five games.
Chicago second baseman Nico Hoerner is 7-for-9 in his last two games with 11 points and should be a good short-term fix.
There are not many good options for the hot corner, but Abraham Toro is the top option as the Mariners lineup has been producing lately.
Outfielders Taylor Ward, Brandon Nimmo and Robbie Grossman have all had tremendous weeks and should be added to benches.
The Orioles’ Jorge Lopez has been great as a relief pitcher so far along with submarine-style pitcher Adam Cimber for the Blue Jays.
For streamers, look at Matt Brash of the Mariners on Friday as he has at least eight points when he pitches five or more innings and is facing the Marlins.
On Saturday, Miles Mikolas will pitch against the Diamondbacks and in his last three starts has gotten 26, 16 and 21 points.
On Sunday, Cole Irvin will pitch against the Guardians and he has pitched at least five innings in each of his past starts.
