Fantasy Hockey: Week 4 Waiver Wire

Story posted November 11, 2022 in CommRadio, Sports by Ben Palillo

We are just over four weeks into the 2022-23 fantasy hockey season, and it’s a great time to make some roster changes to gain an advantage over your league mates.

Carter Verhaeghe, Reilly Smith, Brandon Montour, Matt Roy and Ville Husso are among the players you should be targeting this week.

Let's dive into these players that you should add in Week 4.

Carter Verhaeghe, F, Florida Panthers

Replacing the MVP-caliber production left behind by Jonathan Huberdeau was going to be difficult, but Carter Verhaeghe has done his best.

Verhaeghe has been an offensive machine to start the year with 14 points in 14 games, with eight being goals. His chemistry with top center Aleksander Barkov will only continue to grow.

Verhaeghe is averaging 2.2 fantasy points a game, so add him as his career year continues.

Reilly Smith, F, Las Vegas Golden Knights

Reilly Smith had a slow start to the season with only two goals in the first 11 games, but he has been on fire as of late. Smith has been a puck-scoring machine in his last three games, scoring five goals. In addition, Smith has added five assists to give him 12 points this year.

Smith’s 48 shots on goals are also helping boost as even when he doesn’t get on the scoresheet, he is still providing fantasy value.

With him averaging 2.2 fantasy points per game and being on fire lately, give Smith an add to your squad.

Brandon Montour, D, Florida Panthers

With MacKenzie Weegar being traded in the offseason and Aaron Ekblad going down early on with an injury, the Panthers needed somebody to step up. Brandon Montour has done just that and been better than any could have imagined.

Montour has four goals and 11 assists through the Panthers' first 12 games. He’s also been excellent in the defensive end, with 19 hits and 18 blocks.

Montour is the third-highest fantasy scoring defenseman while averaging three fantasy points, yet he is still available in 33% of all fantasy hockey leagues. So make the no-brainer decision to add this instant-impact player to your squad.

Matt Roy, D, Los Angeles Kings

Matt Roy was put in the Kings' top four this season and has become a solid two-way defenseman.

On the offensive end, Roy has three goals and three assists in 15 games. While defensively, he has 19 hits and has been a shot-blocking machine with 30.

Roy is averaging nearly two fantasy points per game and has a solid floor with a high ceiling if his scoring pace can improve. So add him to your squad if you can.

Ville Husso, G, Detroit Red Wings

With many of the NHL’s upper-echelon starting goalies struggling to start the season, many fantasy managers have been looking for some consistency in the goaltending position. Luckily, there is a player available in 30% of leagues that should be rostered in 100% with how well he has been playing.

Ville Husso has been playing out of his mind in his first season in Detriot. Through eight starts, Husso has won five while posting a .941 save percentage and 1.85 goals against average.

Husso’s numbers could have some regression, but you should still pick him up in every league you can.
