Four Nittany Lions Hit Transfer Portal Less than 24 hours After HC change

There’s already been a lot to talk about at the start of the offseason for the Penn State basketball team. Just a day after the Nittany Lions chose to hire Purdue assistant Micah Shrewsberry as the team’s next head coach, it was announced that four players will be heading into the transfer portal.

John Harrar, Trent Buttrick, Izaiah Brockington and Myreon Jones could all be looking for new homes next season, as all four have been reported to enter the transfer portal. Harrar, Buttrick and Brockington were all confirmed by 247Sports, while news of the Jones transfer has been reported by multiple sources.

Harrar and Buttrick are both graduate seniors and have an extra year of eligibility due to COVID-19. Harrar played a big role for the Nittany Lions this season as the team’s primary big man, finishing the season with 8.8 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. Buttrick, meanwhile, came off the bench in relief of Harrar but had his moments, including a 13-point game on senior night against Minnesota.

Brockington finished as the team’s second leading scorer only behind Jones. This will be his second time in the transfer portal, as he came to Happy Valley following his freshman season at St. Bonaventure. He finished with a career high 12.6 points per game this season and had many highlight-reel dunks during the breakout campaign.

Jones finished the season with 15.3 points per contest, which led the team. His best moment came against Nebraska during the regular season where he dueled with Teddy Allen and picked up a career-high 29 points and the win. Both he and Brockington are juniors.

There could potentially be more transfer news to come, but we will keep you updated as more news breaks on the subject.
