Golden Globes: Best/Worst Dressed

Opinion posted January 25, 2023 in CommRadio, Arts & Entertainment by CommRadio Arts & Entertainment department

Best: Diego Calva and Hannah Einbinder

The Golden Globe awards are back for the 2023 awards season and many celebrities filled the red carpet with their best looks that exuded class and taste. Diego Calva, who helped represent the Winner of the Best Original Score Movie: Babylon, strutted around the Golden Globes in Gucci.

Now, men on red carpets are veering away from the typical black and white suits, and Calva presented himself perfectly in his green suit with a white tulle flower on his chest. He looks sophisticated, while still being out of the box.

The green, which grew in popularity over the course of 2022, is considered neutral, but in the case of Calva’s suit, should not be overlooked. Compared to the other male stars, Calva reigns as one of the best-dressed and reflects the best out of 2022's trends.

Hannah Einbinder in a beautiful black and white dress designed by Carolina Herrera demonstrated her class and elegance with an abnormal hemline. The comedian, Einbinder, dressed simply.

Her red carpet looked like an ode to the saying: “less is more”. The old Hollywood influence must have turned heads from the other celebrities and photographers.

Although she had an old-timey vibe, Einbinder looked fresh and stylish. - Natalie Simone

Worst: Heidi Klum and Seth Rogan

Each year there seem to be numerous celebrities that miss the mark on the red carpet; in 2023, it will be no different.

Seth Rogan, a cast member of The Fabelmans, who won Best Drama Motion Picture, did not put his best foot forward. Rogan, dressed in Dior, presented himself in a pink tux and bowtie.

This look isn’t offensive, it just looks like his stylists took inspiration from the iconic ridiculous tuxedos from Dumb & Dumber. Rogan attempted to do something unique, but failed.

On the other hand, Heidi Klum flaunted herself in a Germanier dress.

Klum needed to look in the mirror and take 10 things off. Sparkles, cutouts with mesh, fur, purple, a horrible clutch and an outdated hairstyle were all combined into one disappointing and headache-inducing look.

The fashion model is known for pushing the limits including her earthworm costume for Halloween, which was a more appealing look. Both celebrities, Seth Rogen and Heidi Kulm who should be pros at red carpets now, dressed for a costume party, rather than the Golden Globes. - Natalie Simone

Best: Andrew Garfield and Michelle Yeoh

If one man can be counted on to dress to impress on a carpet (in something other than a plain black tuxedo), it’s Mr. Andrew Garfield.

The “Under the Banner of Heaven” star donned a burnt orange ZEGNA suit, paired with an OMEGA watch and jewelry by David Yurman.

Garfield not only looked incredible, but brought his infectious positive energy to the carpet interviews that makes him one of the best stars to watch out for during awards season.

“Everything Everywhere All At Once” star Michelle Yeoh also looked stunning for her photo call on the carpet, dressed in a glittering navy blue and silver Armani Privé gown.

She looked like midnight personified, also wearing sparkly silver jewelry to complement the sequins.

The dress had an elegant silhouette that complemented her figure perfectly, and was also very different from other numbers shown throughout the night.

Not only did she win for her performance in “EEAAO,” but also for her incredible carpet fashion. -Kaitlyn Murphy

Worst: Josh Richards and Margot Robbie

It’s still unclear as to why social media personality Josh Richards was invited to the Golden Globes, but his outfit should have gotten him kicked off the red carpet as soon as he arrived.

Richards stepped onto the carpet in a black striped suit, deeply resembling Jack Skellington’s from “The Nightmare Before Christmas” with a silver see-through mesh shirt underneath.

It seems as though the TikTok star was trying to channel the energy that Timotheè Chalamet brought to the Oscars carpet last year with the lack of an undershirt, but it just looked cheap and out of place among the other looks.

It is no secret that “Babylon” star Margot Robbie is one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood right now. She looks like a Barbie doll come to life (which is ironic since she’s playing Barbie in Greta Gerwig’s film coming out this year), but her stylist just did not come through for the Golden Globes this year.

Robbie wore a blush pink lace Chanel gown, most of which was covered with a geometric chevron pattern. The bottom of the gown was just flat lace, and it really did nothing to showcase her.

Some compared the dress to a shrimp, so needless to say it was not one of Robbie’s best ensembles. -Kaitlyn Murphy
