Hobey Baker Watch: Week 8

Story posted November 30, 2022 in CommRadio, Sports by Anthony Desher

We are almost through November which means it's time to think about what we are thankful for. A multitude of players are certainly thankful for their play, and with Thanksgiving in the books, players are even hungrier for the Hobey Baker Award.

Ryan McAllister, Forward, Western Michigan

Another freshman takes the top of this list and his name is Ryan McAllister. The new leading point scorer in the NCAA has tallied 29 points this year in 16 games.

He also leads the NCAA in points per game averaging 1.81 an outing. His linemate Jason Polin deserves a lot of credit as well, and with that 1-2 punch up front, the Broncos are in great hands.

The Broncos are getting better every week, and if that offense keeps firing, Western Michigan will be causing a lot of problems for teams this year.

Adam Fantilli, Forward, Michigan

Fantilli might’ve slipped from the best point scorer in the league, but he is very well still in the conversation for the Hobey Baker.

His 10 goals and 15 assists for 25 points put him second in the league, and with his silky mitts, he is a player every NHL team dreams of.

Fantilli is a human highlight reel with his talent. He can create space, make great tape-to-tape passes, and find twine with his shot. Those abilities are a big reason why he’s on this list every week, and they’re also why he is a projected top-three pick in the upcoming draft.

Aidan McDonough, Forward, Northeastern

The senior has been on a tear this season potting 10 goals and 11 assists through 14 games, keeping the Huskies in the rankings.

Northeastern is just two points behind Connecticut for first place in the Hockey East Conference but is first in the conference in goals scored.

A team that is scoring at a great pace has some key players to thank and McDonough and his offensive upside are a big reason why the Huskies are solid this year.

Collin Graf, Forward, Quinnipiac

Graf isn’t entirely up there in points just yet, but he leads the Bobcats in points this year. Quinnipiac currently sits at No. 2 in the NCAA and has an amazing record of 10-1-3 so far.

He has 17 points in 14 games on a team that has a lot of scoring talent, but he stands out due to his outstanding playmaking abilities.

The Bobcats are a scary team as it shows in the rankings, and if any team has a shot to be the new No. 1, it’s Quinnipiac.
