In-state 2023 linebacker Ta’Mere Robinson commits to Penn State football

Penn State’s “LBU” became one player deep, gaining a commitment from an elite player out of the 2023 class.

Four-star linebacker Ta’Mere Robinson announced Friday he committed to the blue and white over Miami and Virginia Tech.

Robinson marks the third big commitment of the week for Nittany Lions, joining fellow PA product London Montgomery, a four-star running back from Scranton Prep, and four-star Fairfax (Va.) linebacker Tony Rojas.

The in-state product visited Penn State several times and mentioned he formed great connections with the players.

"I visited Penn State multiple times," Robinson said in an interview. "Penn State is definitely great. (Defensive coordinator) coach Manny (Diaz) is coming in, and I had to learn about him a lot, but he is a cool guy, especially after this last visit. We had a good time meeting all the players, the staff and all the recruits. We were all hanging out."

Robinson is the No. 19 player to join James Franklin’s class and ranks as the No. 137 player in the nation, according to the 247 Sports rankings.

Franklin and his staff have dominated recruiting in-state this cycle, with Robinson being the seventh player to stay home and play for the blue and white.

He stands at 6-foot-4, 225 pounds, and his HUDL page lists him as a quarterback, wide receiver, outside linebacker and strong safety, showing his versatility.

The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, native can rush the passer, drop into coverage, defend the run and be physical, and he can be an impact player early for Penn State.

Robinson fits right in line with other weak side linebackers in recent program history in Cam Brown, Brandon Smith and potentially true freshman Abdul Carter.

The Nittany Lions utilized the length and athleticism of Brown and Smith, both of whom saw the field as true freshmen, and Carter seems poised to play during the upcoming seasons.

A linebacker duo of Rojas and Robinson gives the blue and white two top 13 linebackers in the nation and two unique athletes who can shrink the field with their physical skills.

After tearing his ACL during his junior season and having some colleges stop recruiting him after the injury, Robinson looks to play with a chip on his shoulder.

With the addition of Robinson, Penn State sits with a top-five class and second in the Big Ten behind Ohio State.
