“Invincible” Episodes 1-3 Review
Both superhero fans and lovers of animated series alike come together to praise the introduction of one of the latest comic-based animate television series, “Invincible.” It’s amazing to say the least.
“Invincible” originally began as a comic created by Robert Kirkman (creator of the Walking Dead comics) and Corey Walker.
It tells the story of 17-year-old Mark Grayson, son of one of the most powerful superheroes on the planet, Omni-Man. Mark soon develops powers of his own as he comes to the realizations of the struggles of being a superhero.
The first three episodes of the series were recently put on Amazon Video, and audiences can expect something that defies the family-friendly expectations and cliches of typical animated superhero shows.
The amazing cast for this show is something to look forward to as Mark Grayson is voiced by famous actor Steven Yeun and Omni-Man is played by J.K. Simmons.
What’s particularly enjoyable is the fact that the first episode builds on the façade of a normal superhero story- a boy develops powers and strives to be greater kind of narrative.
It’s the subtle details of the actions of the characters that audiences have to look out for in the introduction, especially how other heroes react against Omni-Man.
It’s cool how viewers get to see that contrast between how Omni-Man interacts throughout the episode. There is something awfully off-putting about how he acts with his “co-workers” and his family at home.
The after-credits are shocking to say the least and raise many questions, adding even more complexity to Omni-Man. How will “certain truths” dish out in the future as Mark learns more about his father?
Steven Yeun does an excellent job portraying the superhero Invincible (Grayson), as the humor and light-hearted aspects of the show give a break from the darker or more gruesome scenes.
As Grayson starts to develop and get the hang of his powers, we see the appearance of a group of teen superheroes calling themselves Teen Team in episode two- Atom Eve, Dupli-Kate, Rex Splode and their leader. . . Robot.
While not trying to give too many spoilers away, audiences see Invincible really having to step up as a hero, as he deals with the more violent and stressful realities of super herodom with the invasion of a hostile alien race- without his father having his back.
In episode three viewers will finally get to see the further issues he faces as he tries to balance his hero and normal life. This really draws out the humanity and relatable struggles of Mark.
This latest episode also sees to it that it ends with a cliffhanger, questioning the morality of one of the key characters.
Overall, fans of the superhero genre will find this latest Amazon Prime addition highly intriguing. Those just looking for a new show to watch won’t be disappointed.
