NBA Weekly Recap: Feb. 20

It’s finally All-Star weekend in the NBA. With all kinds of events and talking points here’s a weekly recap of the NBA this week.

All-Star Saturday Night

In the skills challenge, out of Team Rooks, Team Cavs and Team Antetokounmpo, it was Team Cavs who won after Evan Mobley hit the half-court shot to win the entire skills challenge.

Karl-Anthony Towns broke the record for the three-point contest with 29 the most in the final round, the previous record was Devin Booker with 28 in 2018.

The night concluded with a very anticlimactic dunk contest. Obi Toppin won in the end but the Dunk contest just isn’t what it used to be when Aaron Gordon and Zach Lavine were going back and forth.

Lebron James Trade Rumors

With the Lakers struggling heavily the past two seasons and James getting older and older it seems he probably won’t finish his career in a Laker jersey.

The Lakers really don’t have any assets or draft picks to get right back into contending conversation so if James still wants to win a title this move makes sense.

James specifically said in an interview over All-Star weekend that “the door is not closed to a return in Cleveland.” This is definitely something to monitor as we get closer to the off-season.

Historic Suns Record Into All-star Break

The Suns sit at 48-10, six and a half games ahead of the next best, the Golden State Warriors.

In the last 40 NBA seasons, the last three teams to have a six and a half game lead going into All-Star weekend have all won the championship later on that season.

The Suns are 19-6 against teams above .500 and 24-3 in games when it is considered to go down into clutch time.

It’s hard to argue against the Suns being the clear title favorites when healthy considering how deep the team is.

Anthony Davis Injury

Anthony Davis has once again gone down with an injury.

This time a foot sprain will have him sidelined for another four weeks. The Lakers have struggled the entire season to play at a high level and this is in large part due to Davis’s health.

When Healthy Davis is one of the best players in the league but he is constantly getting injured at the age of 28. It’s a shame that such a great talent just keeps getting injured and preventing him from playing at his peak ability.

If this injury bug continues for Davis he might have to start thinking about his future in the league very soon.

Greg Popovich No. 2 on All-Time coaching wins list

Popovich now finds himself three wins shy of being first all-time in wins. He should definitely break that record in the coming weeks this season with Spurs.

One of if not the greatest coaches ever, Popovich has had the Spurs relevant even at their worst since 1997.

This record will be fuel for the fire in his case for the greatest coach of all time.
