UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The proposal of The Cascade, a new building complex in Benner Township, has just been added to the schedule for review.

The Cascade will be situated near the University Park airport where a study for polyfluoroalkyl chemicals is being conducted. The Department of Environmental Protection ensures that there are no dangers in building on the property.

“It definitely sounds modernized. I would think it would seem like it would be something very appealing to most people,” Marilena Hadjieftychiou (freshman-comparative literature) said.

The complex is said to consist of 15 buildings, where the first floors are used for retail space and the second and third floors will be residential apartments. The structure is supposed to resemble a cascade pouring down High Tech Road and Crosswinds Drive.

The distance of The Cascade to campus is a concern for some college students.

“I think living downtown is really convenient and I wouldn't want to live further away,” Nicole Criscoulo (junior-biology) said.

The commission agenda is busy this upcoming week and if Benner Township approves of the plan, the complex will be cleared to start construction.
