NFL MVP Watch: Week 10

Story posted November 21, 2022 in CommRadio, Sports by Christian Holtzapple

For the first half of the 2022 NFL season, Josh Allen looked to be running away with the NFL MVP Award, but recently the Buffalo Bills have lost two heartbreaking games dramatically.

This past Sunday Josh Allen finished the game with 330 passing yards and a touchdown while adding a team-high 84 rushing yards. However, he threw two red zone interceptions and fumbled the ball at his goal line, which was crucial in the Vikings' 17-point comeback win.

Allen's injured elbow was the focal point entering Sunday and it was clear that he was not himself in this matchup at home vs the Vikings.

Allen needs to be better in the second half of games to get back to the top of the MVP race. The Bills haven't scored a touchdown in the second half since they played Kansas City a month ago in Arrowhead Stadium.

Allen’s poor play in back-to-back weeks closing out games opened up the door for Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts.

Philadelphia’s dual-threat star quarterback however only finished with 175 passing yards and 28 rushing yards in its Monday Football matchup vs the Washington Commanders.

These were by far his worst numbers on the season both passing the ball and rushing the ball. This poor performance by Hurts led to the Eagle's first loss of the 2022 season as the Commanders would win 32-21 at Lincoln Financial Field in stunning fashion.

Another player that is worth talking about is Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Tagovailoa has been on a tear since returning from a concussion in Week 7.

He leads the NFL in passer rating and yards per attempt. Tua has a total of 18 passing touchdowns in only seven games played this season, which is the third most among quarterbacks this season.

When Tua has been in the lineup the Miami Dolphins are undefeated with a record of 7-0. Tagovailoa is a great leader for his team and is “the most accurate quarterback in the NFL,” teammate Tyreek Hill said.

Tagovailoa has thrown for 969 yards, nine touchdown passes, and zero interceptions in his past three games. He has had back-to-back great games putting up 300+ yards in both games.

These great performances by Tagovailoa have shifted the standings in the AFC East, where the Dolphins have overtaken the Bills for the division lead.

Patrick Mahomes has become the favorite for MVP and has the league's top-scoring offense in the NFL. He leads the league with 25 passing touchdowns, which is tied for the third-largest lead in passing touchdowns over the past 15 seasons.

Coming into the season there were a lot of questions about the Chiefs' offense with the departure of Wide Receiver Tyreek Hill. Mahomes has been phenomenal and has built chemistry with former Pittsburgh Steeler, JuJu Smith-Schuster. Recently the Chiefs added Kadarius Toney, another talented wideout for Mahomes to throw the ball to.
