NHL Betting Preview: Thursday, Feb. 4

Story posted February 4, 2021 in CommRadio, Sports by Evan Popalis

The NHL season is rolling along, and there are some tight battles in every division. No team leads their respected division by more than one point heading into Thursday’s action. Here are five plays to look at for primetime on Thursday.

Montreal is currently tied with Boston for the most points across the league. Thursday, the Canadiens battle a struggling Ottawa Senators team that has only secured three points in 10 games.

To make matters worse, the Sens are riding a nine-game losing streak heading into Montreal. Expect a big showing from the Canadiens against an Ottawa team that has nothing going for them.

Play: Montreal -1.5

After a 4-3 shootout win against the Blackhawks on Tuesday night, the Hurricanes are back in Chicago for a second straight game. A dominant, young defensive core in Carolina will be more familiar with the Blackhawks attack and will shut it down.

The Hurricanes will be fighting to extend their winning streak to six games. A rebuilding Blackhawks team versus a hot Carolina squad makes the under appealing.

Play: Under 6.5 goals

The Washington Capitals head to Madison Square Garden to face the New York Rangers in an East division battle. The Caps blew a 3-0 lead to the Bruins on Monday night, leading to a Boston victory in regulation

New Washington head coach Peter Laviolette and the top players of the Caps will be out to prove themselves after the shaky defeat. The Rangers have not caught their footing this season and have had off-the-ice drama in the locker room.

Play: Washington Moneyline

As Calgary and Winnipeg face off on Thursday, there are multiple lethal shooters on display. Winnipeg’s Nikolaj Ehlers and Kyle Connor, as well as Calgary’s Johnny Gaudreau, each have six goals to their credits this season.

Both squads can score in the blink of an eye. Expect these two teams to go back and forth and possibly into overtime to settle the score.

Play: Over 5.5 goals

This week’s player prop resides in Sunrise, Florida. Aleksander Barkov knows how to get his name on the stat sheet in close games. The Panthers host the Nashville Predators in what should be a close contest.

Barkov has five assists in six games played, and the Panthers have not lost in regulation this season. The captain of the Panthers has a good shot of recording his sixth assist.

Play: Aleksander Barkov assist

Thursday’s action will be can’t-miss television. The season is almost a quarter of the way through. Teams are stacked on top of each other for division seeding. These plays should start the end of the week off right.
