Penn State Allows Seniors to Attend Football Spring Practice Separate from Adjusted Blue-White Game
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — After initially stating only freshmen would be allowed to attend this year’s variation of the Blue-White game, Penn State football will allow seniors to attend a “special” spring practice.
Penn State will permit seniors inside Beaver Stadium on Friday, April 23 for this affair. In a statement, university president Eric Barron stressed how the school wanted to include seniors at the adjusted Blue-White game. But since Penn State football was unable to accommodate seniors for its spring practice, the university wanted to offer another opportunity to students soon departing University Park.
“This is an important moment for our seniors, and we had intended to extend the opportunity for them to attend the April 17 spring practice, but we were unable due to community health concerns when cases started to rise,” Barron said. “However, the practices were extended, and as health conditions have stabilized, we are thankful to make this shift in programming so that seniors can showcase their Penn State spirit and participate in this long-standing tradition.”
Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Sandy Barbour echoed Barron’s sentiment. In light of Governor Tom Wolf’s relaxed orders on outdoor capacity limits, it became much more feasible for Beaver Stadium to accommodate a larger number of fans.
“We are excited to be able to welcome our seniors for this special spring practice and give them a chance to see Penn State football in Beaver Stadium before graduation,” Barbour said. “The seniors have exhibited such resilience over the last year, as has the rest of our campus community, and we are so proud of everything they have accomplished during their time at Penn State.”
Seniors who are currently enrolled in in-person classes at University Park are eligible to attend. Students must register for tickets in advance of the game, wear masks, and always adhere to social distancing requirements.
Fans will be placed in three-person pods from which they will receive assigned seating that they cannot leave. Seniors will receive additional instructions from Penn State Athletics about how to register for tickets.
