Penn State Club Women’s Ice Hockey Benefits THON
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — There are many special organizations at Penn State that help with THON. One group that helps a lot is Penn State club women’s ice hockey.
Head coach Dillon Adamson (third-year — management) is thankful that his team, and other special organizations, can participate in THON again.
“THON as itself. It's not run by one person. It's run by the entire Penn State community and special orgs have an important part in the community,” Adamson said. “If you can get a bunch of different orgs to come together and help support THON and help grow it.”
Anily Allsopp (third-year — human center design development) is one of two dancers representing the team. She says that she was very excited when she was voted to dance in THON.
Allsopp is familiar with how THON operates. She celebrated it back in middle school and high school.
“It really means everything to me honestly,” Allsopp said. “From the smiles on the faces of our [THON family] I've been close with all year. It's really important to me to do this for our family.”
Allsopp is also in charge of family relations.
Part of the reason that she got the vote to represent the organization was because she brings energy and enthusiasm to the locker room. Her teammates say that she is always the one encouraging them in order to achieve team success.
“They knew that I had the energy to do it,” Allsopp said. “I hope I get to represent them well.”
Adamson says that this experience will help his players grow as people and help form memories that will last a lifetime.
“I know they take it seriously,” Adamson said. “They'll develop some skills by having to organize it and run it.”
THON kicks off on Friday Feb. 18, and ends on Sunday Feb. 20.
