Penn State picked up a new commit at a position of need on Friday afternoon.

Three-star edge rusher Jameial Lyons announced his commitment to join the blue and white via Twitter.

Lyons marks the 10th player in the 2023 recruiting class for the Nittany Lions and the in-state product is extremely excited to be staying home.

“I’m happy to announce I’m staying home and committing to Penn State University!!!,” Lyons said via Twitter. “I look forward to joining the Happy Valley community on and off the field.”

The Roman Catholic High School product stands at 6-foot-4 and 255 pounds and will look to make an immediate impact when he gets on campus.

The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, native had 11 offers from programs such as Maryland, Pitt and Illinois.

Lyons had Penn State in his top five in March prior to taking his fifth campus visit this past Wednesday.

He had originally announced a commitment date for Aug. 4, but he moved it up to Friday at 1 p.m. shortly after he visited campus.

Penn State now sits with the No. 5 recruiting class in the nation and the No. 2 in the conference sitting just behind Ohio State.
