Penn State in the NFL: Week 1
Week one of the NFL season gave us Matty Ice, a shocker in Chicago, Romo being Romo and a thrashing of Eli and the G-Men on Monday night. For football fans, a return to NFL Sundays was surely a welcoming sight. As for how Penn State players fared this past weekend, here is your complete list:
NaVorro Bowman (LB, San Francisco 49ers) – Remained on the Physically Unable to Perform list for last Sunday while still recovering from a gruesome knee injury suffered in last season’s NFC Title game. He is expected to return midway through the season.
Glenn Carson (LB, Arizona Cardinals) – The rookie ‘backer was a healthy scratch from Monday’s game as he was placed on the inactive list.
Jack Crawford (DE, Dallas Cowboys) – The former 2012 5th round selection was inactive during Sunday’s loss to San Francisco.
Garry Gilliam (OT, Seattle Seahawks) – The 23-year-old rookie made his NFL debut last Thursday night in the win over Aaron Rodgers and the Pack. He is currently Justin Britt’s backup at right tackle.
Robbie Gould (K, Chicago Bears) – The 10-year vet was perfect against Buffalo, converting a 41-yarder, 37-yarder and 2 PATs.
Tamba Hali (LB, Kansas City Chiefs) – A mainstay in the Chief’s linebacker core for years, Hali recorded two tackles Sunday in a loss to Jake Locker and the Tennessee Titans.
Jordan Hill (DT, Seattle Seahawks) – Hill did not record any stats in the win against Green Bay.
Gerald Hodges (LB, Minnesota Vikings) – The 2013 second-rounder had five tackles in a trouncing of the Rams.
DaQuan Jones (DT, Tennessee Titans) – The rookie was a healthy inactive for last Sunday’s game.
Sean Lee (LB, Dallas Cowboys) – Lee is out for the entire 2014 season with a torn left ACL. He signed a seven-year, $42.6 million contract last August.
Mike Mauti (LB, Minnesota Vikings) – One of the saviors of the PSU football program during the tumultuous days after the NCAA sanctions were levied, Mauti missed last week’s game with a foot injury.
Matt McGloin (QB, Oakland Raiders) – The Penn State career leader in touchdown passes backed up rookie Derek Carr against the Jets and did not see the field.
Jordan Norwood (WR, Denver Broncos) – The 5th year receiver did not see action in the Broncos win over Indianapolis.
Jared Odrick (DT, Miami Dolphins) – Odrick started and had three tackles in the ‘Fins win over division rival New England Patriots.
Rich Ohrnberger (OG, San Diego Chargers) – Ohrnberger backed up veteran Chad Rinehart during the Chargers loss on Monday night.
Paul Posluszny (LB, Jacksonville Jaguars) – The 2013 Pro-Bowler had 12 tackles vs. Philadelphia Sunday.
Andrew Quarless (TE, Green Bay Packers) – The tight end was targeted four times, and finished with three catches for 26 yards, including an 18-yard catch.
Allen Robinson (WR, Jacksonville Jaguars) – The rookie receiver had one lone reception that went for no yards against the Eagles. He figures to get more looks if Cecil Shorts can’t play this Sunday.
A.Q. Shipley (OT, Baltimore Ravens) – The 3rd year pro was inactive against Cincinnati.
Mickey Shuler (TE, Jacksonville Jaguars) – Shuler saw one target but couldn’t reel it in last Sunday. He only has two career receptions.
Devon Still (DT, Cincinnati) – Still was recently promoted to the 53-man roster while he deals with his daughter’s battle with cancer. The Bengals have recently announced that his jersey sales profits will go towards cancer research, and that his jersey is now the highest selling jersey in team history.
Nathan Stupar (LB, Atlanta Falcons) – Stupar was a DNP in the win over New Orleans.
Johnnie Troutman (OG, San Diego Chargers) – The second-year man started on the line in the one-point loss to Arizona on Monday night.
John Urschel (OG, Baltimore Ravens) – Urschel backed up Marshal Yanda in week one.
Cameron Wake (DE, Miami Dolphins) – One of the centerpieces of the Dolphins defense, Wake had three tackles, two sacks and two forced fumbles and played a huge part in the upset win over New England.
Stefen Wisniewski (C, Oakland Raiders) – Wisniewski started for Oakland in Derek Carr’s rookie debut under center.
