Penn State in the NFL: Week 17 Edition

Story posted January 4, 2023 in CommRadio, Sports by Logan Bourandas

There’s officially just one week left in the NFL regular season giving some former Penn Staters less time to shine on their rosters.

Let’s take a look at some of the best performances from this past week.

Chris Godwin, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

It was a huge day for the Buccaneers offense in a must win game and Godwin was a huge part of their success.

Godwin caught nine passes for 120 yards in the win over the Carolina Panthers.

It was the second time this season that Godwin had over 100 yards this season and his highest yard total this season.

Godwin enters the final week of the season just two catches shy of 100 on the year and 32 yards away from 1,000 for the third time of his career.

Adrian Amos, S, Green Bay Packers

Speaking of big wins, the Packers needed to win to stay alive and did against the Minnesota Vikings.

Amos played a big role during the game as he picked up eight tackles with one of those being for loss.

The safety also added two pass deflections and an interception in the win.

That was the first interception of the season for Amos and was also the tenth of his career.

Saquon Barkley, RB, New York Giants

The Giants were another NFC team that needed to win and were awarded a playoff berth because of it.

Barkley pitched into what was an impressive offensive output against the Indianapolis Colts with 58 rushing yards on just 12 carries.

Those yards put Barkley at 1,312 rushing yards on the season which is a new career high surpassing the 1,307 yards he put up in his 2018 rookie campaign.

Mike Gesicki, TE, Miami Dolphins

It’s been a tough back half of the season for the Miami Dolphins who are now on a five-game losing streak.

Gesicki has been quiet during that stretch but was able to find the endzone last week against the New England Patriots.

The tight end picked up two receptions for 18 yards to go along with that score.

That touchdown was the first for Gesicki since week eight against the Detroit Lions and he now has five on the season.

Yetur Gross-Matos, DE, Carolina Panthers

Gross-Matos was on the losing end of a must win game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but still pitched in on the defensive end.

In the loss, Gross-Matos picked up four tackles and a sack.

That sack was the first for Gross-Matos since week 11 against the Baltimore Ravens.

Gross-Matos now has 2.5 sacks on the year to go along with 52 total tackles.
