Penn State Men’s Soccer Defeats Penn for Fifth Straight Win
No. 9 Penn State men’s soccer (10-4-1) stretched their winning streak to five games by beating the Penn Quakers (6-7-1) 2-1, on a late goal from sophomore Shane Campbell. The Nittany Lions have won nine of their last 10 games. A scoreless first half was followed by an exciting second half, where junior Eli Dennis and Campbell both scored for Penn State, while Alex Neumann scored for the Quakers.
The Nittany Lions struck first on a goal from Dennis, his third of the year. The junior’s goal came in the 62nd minute.
Penn would answer soon after in the 71st minute on a header from Neumann. The Quakers are no slouch, as they are still unbeaten in the Ivy League and proved to be a good match for Penn State.
After Sunday’s exhilarating affair, there would be no overtime for the Nittany Lions in this game, as Campbell scored the game winning goal in the 84th minute. Campbell scored on the rebound from freshman Mason Clerk’s shot. It was Campbell’s second goal of the year. Penn State keeper Andrew Wolverton finished the game with five saves.
The Nittany Lions travel to Ohio State to play the Buckeyes at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on Saturday.
