Penn State Students React to Taking Finals

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa- As the 2021 fall semester comes to a close, finals are right around the corner.

Returning to normal campus life was an adjustment for many students, including the change of going to in-person classes. For some students, the college has consisted of strictly zoom classes and online work. This year has been different for everyone.

Several students have missed the classroom environment and the feeling of being surrounded by their peers. Although, this change has caused some frustration to students in regards to studying for finals.

“I’ve been more stressed this year than any other semester,” Caleb Kemah (third year- security risk analysis) said. “Last year the tests I was taking were open book and over zoom. This year they are in the Pollock Testing Center or in a lecture hall.”

In response to this, Penn State has offered assistance to students during the semester through the Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) and office hours with professors. Students were encouraged to take advantage of these resources to ensure they are comfortable and acclimated.

The university has provided the option to meet with advisors and professors through zoom as well. These choices allow the students to choose what is more suitable for them.

“I have been able to take advantage of office hours and it has helped me a lot with my course load,” Olivia Pervall (second-year- communications science disorders) said. “The in-person classes are better than zoom because it helps me stay focused in class.”

Students across all grades are preparing for their upcoming finals with multiple resources at their disposal.
