Penn State Women’s Basketball Gets Set To Begin Two Game Road Trip

Penn State will seek to start a two-game road stretch this week to continue its conference success.

The Lady Lions ended last week with a win against Purdue at the Bryce Jordan Center.

Senior guard Makenna Marisa led the way with a 24-point night while redshirt sophomore guard Leilani Kapinus pitched in a double-double while also compiling seven steals.

Now, the Lady Lions hit the road to face Nebraska on Wednesday before a big test against No. 12 Iowa.

The Cornhuskers enter the game with a 10-6 record but have struggled in conference play thus far with a 2-3 record which ties the Lady Lions’.

Losers of their last three games, the Cornhuskers lost all of those games by double digits which includes two against ranked opponents.

The Cornhuskers have picked up some big wins this season however which includes a triple-overtime thriller against No. 20 Kansas in late December.

Star guard Jaz Shelley played a big role in the win with 24 points and leads the team with 14.3 points per game. The junior guard earned All-Big Ten second team honors last season.

Following that, the Lady Lions travel to take on a stacked Iowa Hawkeyes team on Saturday.

Last season's reigning Big Ten tournament champions remain a force in the conference with a 12-4 record on the year.

The Hawkeyes were winners in their last matchup against the Michigan Wolverines which was their second win over a ranked opponent this season.

A big part of that success has been due to Caitlin Clark who continues to look like one of the best all-around players in the country.

Clark is averaging 27.2 points, 7.4 rebounds and 6.7 assists per game this season and ranks third in the country in points.

The junior guard was the Big Ten Player of the Year last year and has had great success against Penn State as she holds Iowa’s single-game assist record after dishing out 18 in a game last season at the Bryce Jordan Center.

Clark is one of three double-digit scorers for the Hawkeyes joining fifth-year forward   Monika Czinano and senior forward McKenna Warnock.

Sitting with a 2-3 record in conference play, this is a big stretch of games for the Lady Lions who currently sit in the middle of the pack in the Big Ten.
