Penn State’s Homecoming Is Back In Full Swing

Homecoming festivities are back in full swing this week with students and residents alike excited for the festivities.

Last year, almost every aspect of Homecoming had to be done virtually due to the coronavirus. However, this year the Homecoming Committee has planned all their events to be in person.

Events will run all week long and will culminate at Beaver Stadium this Saturday when the Nittany Lions face Illinois at noon.

The week kicked off on Monday with the Allen Street Jam. The entire downtown action of Allen Street was closed off to traffic.

The block party included live musical performances all day long along with several dance performances as well. People also participated in cornhole competitions and they even had a caricature booth for everyone to enjoy for free.

Student Sam Pie said he enjoyed taking in all the fun.

“I really enjoyed it, it was a lot of fun,” Pie (sophomore - business) said. “The music was great, and it was a perfect day to do it with the weather.”

There were a plethora of both students and residents at the block party. People of all ages showed up and displayed their Penn State pride.

The homecoming festivities will continue throughout the week. On Thursday, the “Opulence X Homecoming Drag Show” will take place at Dots Downtown. The event costs $5 to enter and will feature Penn State’s drag ambassadors.

The Alumni Ice Cream Social at the Hintz Family Alumni Center on Friday is open to all Penn State students, alumni and anyone a part of the Penn State community.

The final event will be on Saturday with the 101st running of the Homecoming Parade,here one of the largest student-run parades will run across campus and through downtown.
