P!nk - Beautiful Trauma Album Review

Story posted October 19, 2017 in CommRadio, Arts & Entertainment by Jacinda Soto

P!nk is back for the first time in five years with her newest album, Beautiful Trauma. P!nk showcases her vocal abilities, with this album being one of her more cool headed creations; not much screaming from the usually loud artist.

While the album was produced by many, it has manipulated the P!nk  in very different lights. For the good and the bad, her album ranges from many different types of songs with different vibes and meanings. For starters, the album begins off with her single “Beautiful Trauma” and it sounds as if it belongs in the beginning of a television show and/or movie, yet the collection ends with a more heavy-hearted track, “You Get My Love,” something one would expect someone like Adele to be singing.

With an appearance from Eminem on the single “Revenge,” the track sets the pair in an odd yet intriguing place. The duo performed a killer collaboration with Eminem uncovering some vocal abilities that took many by surprise and paired with P!nk, they created something light-hearted but different. Eminem's vulgar lyrics are no surprise. Along with the message of the song, the pair has pulled attention to the sad topic of revenge on heartbreak.

Although P!nk channels a softer side on this album, she still gives you her loud, in your face personality to go along with it, f-bombs included. She touches on different topics throughout the album, some personal and some more popularly relatable. If you're into artists putting their darkest truths into their music, then this is the album for you. P!nk has always been unapologetically human, but here she lays it all out on  the table and in today’s media, this may make her a new favorite for many.

The old P!nk is still alive, but some may question her as the track “Barbies” focuses on her childhood joys. “I wish I could go back to playing barbies in my room” is the last thing someone thought they would hear from her mouth, which gives her some shock value points. “Secrets” is much heavier though, calling everyone out on their very own secrets. But “Secrets” cannot compare to “Better Life” where she admits fearing her significant other and picturing a better life with someone else. She has gone so deep into her personal life on this album as she exposes her marriage to the world.

The not so vulnerable P!nk she has definitely shown us all her wounds in this collection, something different from what she is used to releasing. It still fits her though as she never shied away from uncomfortable topics and she still gets her message across.

This being something new for her, it was a success. Change for artist isn’t always a good thing, but this sound is working in her favor, even showcasing some of her rap abilities. Who knows what else the diverse artist has in store for later on. The album could be a favorite of many and is pleasant to listen to.
