Premier League Preview

Story posted October 16, 2020 in CommRadio, Sports by Cole Koffler

One of the biggest weeks of the Premier League season is upon us, with title implications and European competition hopes on the line throughout the weekend.

The Merseyside Derby has the spotlight this week as Liverpool travels across Stanley Park to pay a visit to top of the table Everton.

This is perhaps the biggest meeting between the two sides since they met in the FA Cup semi-final in 2012. The Blues have not beat the Reds since 2010.

Led by James Rodriguez and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Everton is looking to make a statement that the Toffees mean business this season as they try to take down the defending champions. Liverpool, after coming off of an embarrassing 7-2 defeat to Aston Villa, is looking to bounce back after the result. Whoever wins this match will have not only bragging rights but the upper hand in the title race.

Aston Villa and Leicester City come into this week's game in second and third. Yes, you read that correctly.

After coming off a dominant win over defending champions Liverpool, Aston Villa is looking to keep the momentum going. This transformed Villa side is not like the one fans saw last year as the villains barely survived relegation. Similar to Liverpool, Leicester City is looking to make a statement coming off of a 3-0 loss to West Ham.

Manchester City travels to London to take on Arsenal.

Manchester City’s inconsistency has been the storyline of the season for them. The injury to Sergio Aguero has looked to be a factor in goal scoring as they have not been able to finish opportunities. With Aymeric Laporte back, the defense will slowly get back its form but it has a tough task in stopping potent scorer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The first London Derby of the year sees two teams coming off of massive wins in Tottenham and West Ham.

Last week, these two teams combined for a total of nine goals against each of their respective opponents. With Heung-min Son and Harry Kane continuing their hot starts to the season, Jose Mourinho is looking to guide the Spurs to the Champions League and maybe even a trophy this season.

The past two games for West Ham have been filled with goals, scoring seven goals in two games. The Irons have been scoring by committee. The team play and chemistry has been a key to the West London side.

Leeds United and Wolves are two teams that play similar styles. This matchup should be fast paced with a lot of momentum.

Leeds’ first season back in the Premier League has not disappointed. Coming off a huge draw against Manchester City, Leeds are looking to ride that momentum into this game.

Exciting games and drama fill the line-up of games over the weekend. Sit back, relax and enjoy some top quality footy.
