Rank it: “Special” by Lizzo

Opinion posted February 7, 2023 in CommRadio, Arts & Entertainment by Natalie Simone

12. “Grrrls”

From Lizzo, this is disappointing. She tried to be more mainstream, but “Grrrls” is a total miss.

11. “I Love You B****”

The song title may give someone a giggle, but this song humanizes Lizzo because she truly shares her feelings.

10. “Break Up Twice”

This song is an example of the right way to sample others’ songs; Lizzo pays tribute to Lauryn Hill’s “Doo Wop (That Thing)” and did not let Hill down.

9. “Everybody’s Gay”

Lizzo’s vocals are truly impressive, but this one seems like an afterthought of the album.

8. “If You Love Me”

Every album needs one: a song about heartbreak and sadness.

7. “Coldplay”

Another tribute to Coldplay, this song does not disappoint and Lizzo added her own style to Coldplay’s equally accomplished music.

6 . “The Sign”

This song is when you are in a silly, goofy, mood and need to scream out a chaotic monologue.

5. “Naked”

Sensual, sultry, and passionate. Lizzo changes up her typical fun-loving vibes for some seductive energy.

4. “Birthday Girl”

Every girl needs this played at their birthday, this is a perfect song to lift up energy and bring excitement.

3. “About Damn Time”

Although overplayed, catchy beat, lyrics and definitely a song to bust a move to (Tik Tok understands).

2. “Special”

A song to play everyday after waking up. Lizzo preaches self-love, empowerment and strength, which was made obvious by this song.

1. “2 Be Loved (Am I Ready)”

This song is completely underrated and to answer Lizzo’s question: we are ready and grateful for this beat.
