UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — A big part of a successful THON is having a logo that represents the theme of the 46 hour dance marathon.

The 2023 logo is titled “foster the magic.” It was inspired by the fairy tale “Four Diamonds” by Christopher Millard. In 1972, Millard passed away due to cancer at the age of 14.

THON weekend creates and captures so many magical moments for students to embrace. Most students enjoy how the logo looks.

Taylor Stearns (third-year — telecommunications) says that the logo represents something more than just individuals.

“I just think the whole logo sparks that formal initiation of why we joined THON and why I'm a part of something bigger than myself,” Stearns said.

Lexie Gill (third year — cybersecurity) really admired how the logo was named after Millard’s book.

“I love how we're incorporating such a vital part of THON back into the upcoming years, especially after the recent death of the creator of THON,” Gill said.

A huge part in fostering the magic is the reveal of the grand total. Last year, THON set a new record raising more than $13 million. This is when the kids start to feel how special THON weekend is.

“You can see that they think this is magical,” Gill said. “The actions that we're doing to create all these fundraising records is truly magical.”

THON kicks off this Friday, February 17 at the Bryce Jordan Center.
