UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- Keep your eyes open this week because there’s a chance you will see a hotdog on wheels.

The Oscar Mayer Hotdoggers are back visiting Penn State’s campus to bring a smile to everyone’s face and hopefully encourage upcoming graduates to apply for the position.

This project was started back in 1936 by Carl G. Mayers to promote and advertise the brand. Today, the Weinermobile travels the country bringing joy and adding an element of surprise to everyday life.

Two Hotdoggers have brought the Weinermobile to University Park and have made visits to classrooms and certain areas, such as outside the HUB-Robeson Center. Nicole “NicoleSlaw” Sasiela and Marcelo “Mustard Marcelo” Nylund are here to share their insights on Hotdogger life and the brand’s mission with Penn State.

“Normally, you go to a different city every week. Everyday and every event can be completely different,” Nylund said. “You can be parked at a grocery store and see hundreds of people or be at a birthday party with a small number of people that you can interact with and understand on a personal level.”

After graduating college and on the search for a job, Nylund and  Saisela did not expect to end up with the unusual job as a Hotdogger.

With over 4,000 applicants, 12 are offered the year-long position. Sasiela and Nylund were given the opportunity to drive one of the six Wienermobiles.

As a Hotdogger, they have become a part of a lasting memory for tons of people.

“I get to make people smile everyday and my job is so special to me,” Sasiela said. “Truly every person that you meet is a special memory, whether it is their first time seeing the Weinermobile or their 10th time.”

Penn State was chosen as a stop to find potential Hotdoggers as several alumni have held this position in the past. To keep this tradition, Penn State students should look into this employment possibility. Make your way over to speak to the Oscar Mayer ambassadors this week for more information.
