UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — THON, the world’s largest student-run philanthropy fighting to end childhood cancer, had a big announcement to make Friday.

As the tradition stands, the organization’s executive team announced its 2023 THON theme prior to the start of Penn State’s Homecoming parade. And this year’s theme is “Foster the Magic.”

Students had varied opinions on this year’s theme, with some left feeling confused.

“To be honest, I think the wording is a little confusing where it may leave it open to interpretation and people might not know exactly what is meant by the phrase,” Lindsay Weber (junior-engineering) said.

On the contrary, others felt that the theme name fit perfectly,

“I think that’s a really good description for how the Bryce-Jordan Center feels during THON weekend,” Tre Ferguson (senior-business) said.

With its milestone announcement revealed, next up for THON is its two-week “Dream Forward” campaign that kicked off Monday. The organization’s goal is to raise $700,000 through various fundraisers and events.

In November, THON will host the “100 Days ‘til THON” event and the annual family carnival, where the 2023 THON logo will be revealed.
