Top 5 Teams That Got Better In Free Agency

Story posted March 24, 2023 in CommRadio, Sports by James Morrison

It has been about two weeks since free agency began and most of the top free agents have been signed. Here are the five teams who took advantage of free agency the best:

1. Detroit Lions

These are not your typical Detroit Lions and they have not been ever since Sheila Ford Hamp took over as the owner.
As one of the up and coming teams in the NFL, Detroit was able to make additions throughout its roster that benefits the present and keeps the future intact.

They addressed a struggling secondary by bringing in Cameron Sutton, Chauncey Gardner-Johnson and Emmanuel Moseley while also bringing back linebacker Alex Anzalone to complement Malcolm Rodriguez.

On offense they added David Montgomery to replace Jamaal Williams and Ryan Glasgow to replace Evan Brown.

2. New York Jets

The Jets have been building around Aaron Rodgers so far this offseason, but they still have not acquired him yet.
They added Allen Lazard and Mecole Hardman to complement Garrett Wilson and Corey Davis which immediately improves their receiving core.

They also added some protection in Wes Schweitzer and brought back kicker Greg Zeurlien.

There have not been many defensive additions, but they did bring back defensive lineman Solomon Thomas.

3. Denver Broncos

A team that does not get enough credit for what they have done so far this offseason is the Denver Broncos.

Even though they are without a first-round pick this season, they helped out Russell Wilson by paying big for offensive linemen Mike McGlinchey and Ben Powers.

Denver brought back Alex Singleton to center their defense and up front they added Zach Allen to beef up their defensive line.

4. Chicago Bears

Chicago has been very active so far and acquired receiver DJ Moore to be their top target from Carolina in exchange for the first overall pick.

The Bears helped out their defense too by paying the premium for Tremaine Edmunds, TJ Edwards and Demarcus Walker.

Guard Nate Davis will also help with the protection of Justin Fields this season.

5. New York Giants

The Giants made their big moves early on in free agency by bringing back Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley before free agency began.

After cutting Kenny Golladay, the Giants brought back Darius Slayton and brought in Parris Campbell who is a good scheme fit in New York.

Bobby Okereke is a very under the radar signing that can provide a huge boost up the middle of the defense and will be a huge difference maker for the Giants this season.

Bonus Team: Carolina Panthers

The Panthers are on here because they completely revamped their offense.

Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold were the quarterbacks last year but now this year Andy Dalton and whoever is taken with the first overall pick will take over.

They traded top receiver DJ Moore to the Bears and instead brought in Adam Thielen to replace him.

D’Onta Foreman led the running game last season but went to Chicago and was replaced by Miles Sanders.

Hayden Hurst is an upgrade at tight end and Vonn Bell provides an upgrade at safety as well.
