Penn State Football is set to return in mid-October.

More than a month after the Big Ten’s presidents voted to cancel the 2020 fall college football season, the conference has reversed its decision and will be playing football this fall.

The Big Ten Council of Presidents and Chancellors met Tuesday night and has voted to allow football to return. This vote will reverse the Aug. 11 decision by the conference to shut down football and all fall sports due to health concerns amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The modified season is set to begin Oct. 24, and the league will attempt to play eight games in nine weeks. The Big

Ten Championship Game will be played on Dec. 19, just a day before the College Football Playoff reveals its field of teams, per Colten Bartholomew from the Wisconsin State Journal.

The re-vote came after weekend meetings between the conference’s return-to-competition committee, which is chaired by University of Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez.

The return-to-competition committee presented the conference with advancements in COVID-19 testing capabilities, as well as rapid, daily testing options, according to Bartholomew.
