Game of the Week: Ohio State vs TCU

Story posted September 12, 2018 in CommRadio, Sports by Jeffrey Morgan

As college football heads into week three, the matchup everyone will be looking at is the fourth-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes against the fifteenth- ranked TCU Horned Frogs. The game will kick off at 8 p.m. on ABC at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX and will be the site of ESPN’s College Gameday.

This game could be a potential game for the selection committee to look at come playoff time. A win over Ohio State would shoot TCU up in the rankings while a win over TCU on the road would be considered a strong win by college football analysts. This game has playoff implications.

Horned Frogs starting quarterback Shawn Robinson is a sophomore who played in six games as a freshman. The now full-time starter will look to continue his success from inside and outside the pocket that he has seen. So far as he has rushed for 112 yards and three touchdowns on the year while passing for 328 yards and four touchdowns.

The Buckeyes defense, led by defensive end Nick Bosa, will look to slow down the Horned Frogs offense which has put up 97 points in two games this season. The Buckeyes should be up for the task as they held Rutgers to a mere three points last game on their way to a 52-3 victory.

Ohio State’s offense is as high powered as they come. They put up 77 points in a week one win against Oregon State. Sophomore quarterback Dwayne Haskins has thrown for 546 yards and nine touchdowns this year.

The Horned Frogs like to spread the ball around on offense and have completed touchdowns to five different receivers this season. Look for Robinson to continue to share the wealth against a strong Buckeyes defense.

The Buckeyes boast a strong running game with junior Mike Webber in the backfield. Weber averages 7.8 yards per carry and has scored four total touchdowns on the year.

This will be the final game of Urban Meyer’s three-game suspension so Ryan Day will continue his role as acting head coach. This will be the first and only true test for interim head coach Ryan Day with Meyer returning for week four.

TCU will open up Big 12 play the following week when they will travel to Texas to take on the Longhorns.

The Buckeyes will have to wait another week to begin conference play as they play Tulane before heading to Happy Valley to take on the Nittany Lions in a highly anticipated Big Ten matchup.

Ohio State has won each of the last three meetings between the two teams and holds a 4-1-1 record versus TCU all time. The teams last met in 1973 when the Woody Hayes led Buckeyes beat TCU 37-3.

This is a good TCU team with a whole lot of excellent parts, but this Ohio State offense is special and it will prevail in the end

Prediction: Ohio State 31, TCU 21
