5 Things We Learned: Premier League Matchweek 7

Story posted November 5, 2020 in CommRadio, Sports by Cole Koffler

With a big week in the Premier League coming up, let’s revisit last week's storylines.

Title contending Spurs?

A massive win for Tottenham, as it beat Brighton by a score of 2-1. Gareth Bale kicked off his welcome back to the club by scoring the winning goal in the seventy-third minute. Harry Kane also scored a penalty in the thirteenth minute to get the scoring started for the game.

Spurs are clicking in all facets of the game and are a serious outside shot for the title. The flaming hot Heung-Min Son and Kane are both fully fit and have been magical this season by playing at the top of their game.

The signing of Sergio Reguilon has made a difference in this side as they are surging through the league.

Southampton is sitting in fifth place

As of right now, Southampton is sitting in fifth place. Yes, you read that correctly.

Southampton had been quietly tearing up the league by winning four out of their last five matches. Unfortunately, the Saints’ leading scorer Danny Ings will be out at least five weeks.

Southampton's late season form from last year has been replicated by the start of this season. So far, it is looking great for the Saints.

Everton slips up, again

One of the teams that Southampton beat to rise up to fifth place was none other than Everton. Everton has only won two of their last five games, but two of those results were losses to Newcastle and Southampton.

This drop in form has caused the Toffee’s to drop to fourth place. Dominic Calvert-Lewin is still on fire, as he is proving his case for a possible Golden Boot at the end of the season.

Breakout star Jame Rodriguez was out last game due to an injury and should be back soon, but can he help lift Everton out of this slump?

Arsenal finally get an away win versus one of the big six

For the first time since Arsene Wenger’s time at the club, Mikel Arteta has led the Gunners to their first away win versus one of the big six with a 1-0 win over Manchester United.

A goal scored by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the sixty-ninth was enough for all three points. With another loss and sitting in fifteenth, Manchester United are in deep trouble.
Is this the time for change for United and is there a new guard for Arsenal? Arsenal is one of the favorites for the top four this year and in the future maybe a title run, but the Gunners still do not have a core to carry them there.

The top six is wild

The top six teams in the Premier League is what nobody expected. Currently, the top six comprises Liverpool, Leicester City, Tottenham, Everton, Southampton, and Wolves. Nobody could have predicted this top six, especially with the money that the other clubs have spent over the past transfer windows.

At this point, any team in the top half of the table has a shot at top four and in Europe. Liverpool is at the top and are doing surprisingly better than people thought without Virgil Van Dijk.

Leicester City looks to avenge last season's disappointment and Tottenham looks to finish top four. A new look Everton looks to bring the blue half of Merseyside its respect.

A big week of football is upon us with games that can alter positions all across the board.
