Around the SEC: Week 5
Some things never change. As usual, the SEC is the best conference in college football, and it’s hard to argue otherwise. In 2022, Alabama and Georgia have proven once again they are the class of college football.
Some SEC teams that regularly receive hype, but tend to fall short of expectations, are making this season count.
No. 8 Tennessee (4-0, 1-0 SEC) and No. 25 LSU (4-1, 2-0 SEC) are certainly on that list.
Although the Volunteers are ranked higher than the Tigers of LSU, Saturday will tell which team is superior when they square off in Baton Rouge, La.
After a heartbreaking loss to Florida State to open the season, LSU has rattled off five straight wins against quality opponents like Auburn and Mississippi State. Tennessee has played a similar schedule in terms of quality of competition and knocked off then No. 17 Pitt and No. 20 Florida.
These two squads don’t stack up to the likes of Alabama and Georgia, but they have the potential to make it interesting… For a few quarters at least…
Regardless, these teams are a part of why the SEC is so deep.
The No. 13 Kentucky Wildcats (4-1, 1-1 SEC) and the No. 9 Ole Miss Rebels are another set of teams that could make some noise when the initial College Football Playoff rankings are announced.
Last Saturday, the Rebels took down the Wildcats in dramatic fashion after a pair of defensive stops late in the fourth quarter sealed the deal.
Ole Miss doesn’t have many quality opponents left on its schedule, but a win against Alabama on Nov. 12 gives them a real shot at being a top-four team when all is said and done.
