The Divine 9 fraternity Omega Psi Phi is better known for their rambunctious actions. Maurice Smith, a member of the fraternity, speaks out about the stereotypes that come with pledging to be a “Que”.

Even though their reputation might seem negative, Maurice says that being a “Que” also means being a leader in the community. The Omega Psi Phi fraternity offers students with many scholarships, along with other academic and community service opportunities.

“Ques” may have to struggle with being seen as wild and loud individuals, but Maurice Smith rises above that stigma. He is currently a third year Ph.D. student in agricultural sciences. Not only does he have great experience in his field of study, but he is a leader at Penn State.

He is involved in several organizations on campus, including the Black Graduate Student Association.  Undoubtedly, Maurice Smith’s success puts the name of Omega Psi Phi fraternity into a different perspective.
