Centre County Report in Panama

Central America's Panama serves as a bridge between the Pacific and Atlantic oceans and is home to one of the seven wonders of the world. The main landmark, the Panama Canal, just added a third set of locks in 2016, ultimately completeing a 10-year expansion project. But there's more to the country than the infamous canal. A team of Penn State University journalists set out to find what else is unique to Panama during an international reporting trip, and here's what they brought back.

Junior / Broadcast Journalism and Spanish

Kayla is an anchor, reporter and producer for the Centre County Report. She is a junior from Shawnee, Pennsylvania, with duel majors in broadcast journalism and Spanish. Capable both in front of and behind the camera, she aspires to work in broadcast news television. She is currently a news reporting intern for WPSU FM, and will be working in Washington D.C. in the fall of 2016 as a part of the College of Communications’ Washington Program. She spent a summer studying Spanish language and history abroad in Ronda, Spain. Aside from her work in broadcasting, Kayla is also a student manager at the Findlay Dining Commons at Penn State.

As the Digital Managing Editor of the university’s student-run newspaper The Daily Collegian and an Executive Producer for the Centre County Report, Gabby has developed a passion for news and newsroom management. In March she will be traveling to Panama with the College of Communications as a part of the International Reporting class. Gabby will be graduating in May with a degree in broadcast journalism as well as criminology. She hopes to pursue a career as a producer or assignment desk editor.
