Bobby Hilzen may seem like your average college student, but behind closed doors he’s chasing his dream of becoming a DJ. Entering Penn State as a freshman, Hilzen was on the varsity swim team. He dedicated his first two years of school to his athletic career, but shortly realized he was wasting his time.

His real dream is to create the infectious music of EDM (electronic dance music). He said he doesn’t know to explain his love for music other than “goose bumps.”

Hilzen says that when he DJ’s, he forgets about the rest of the world and is completely engulfed in the power of music. He has been playing music since the age of 7 when his dad bought him a drum set. Ever since, he says, music has always had a special place in his heart. Recently, he’s been trying to create his “sound.” Hilzen says, that in order to be a successful DJ, you must be original. He says that some of the DJ’s he looks up to are Kaskade, Skrillex and Calvin Harris, all of whom have a very distinct sound and style of music.
