Cole Brevard, Will Knutsson transfer while Hunter Nourzad joins Penn State football

The trenches have been an area of concern for Penn State heading into the 2022 season.

With limited depth on the offensive line and injuries on the defensive line, the Nittany Lions made several changes to those units early this week.

The blue and white added an offensive lineman to the team while having two players, one on each side of the ball, transfer.

The Nittany Lions officially announced the addition of offensive lineman Hunter Nourzad to the program on Monday.

Nourzad spent the last four years with Cornell and was named second-team All-American in 2021. He started in 20 games at the FCS level, playing right tackle last season.

The expectation is that Penn State moves Nourzad inside to challenge for playing time at one of the guard positions.

Despite the addition of Nourzad, the blue and white saw two depth players head to new schools.

On Monday morning, redshirt sophomore defensive tackle Cole Brevard announced he is transferring to Big Ten foe Purdue.

Brevard was a former 4-star recruit and made just one appearance over two campaigns with the Nittany Lions.

The defensive tackle is closer to home now at Purdue, as his hometown of Carmel, Indiana, is just over an hour from the campus.

Penn State opens its season at Brevard and the Boilermakers on Thursday, Sept. 1.

Coach James Franklin also saw redshirt junior Will Knutsson commit to Northern Colorado on Tuesday afternoon.

Knutsson only appeared in one game during his four-year career in Happy Valley. He will exercise one of his remaining years of eligibility to play with the Bears in Greeley, Colorado.
